About

Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at Soongsil University is the only department in Korea, which has both
an statistics tract that develops data analysis capabilities which are core competencies of the future society and
an actuarial science track that maximizes the synergy between statistics and actuarial science.

Main Activities of the Student Council throughout the Year

Freshman Orientation (February) It is a place to help freshmen adapt well to school life by introducing university culture and the department to freshmen and getting to know each other.
Student General Meeting and Semester Opening Party (March) It is a place where all students from the department gather to introduce the members of the student council for a year and share the one-year activity plan of the student council and the plan of each conference and seminar.
Student Outing (March) This is a place where everyone from undergraduates and graduate students to professors can participate to build strong friendships and enhance a sense of belonging to the department.
Teacher’s Day Event (May) It is a day to give thanks for the hard work of the professors during this time.
Field Trip (November) It is an event to select and visit a business once a year to check how the course students learn in the department is used in the field and to increase students’ desire for learning.
Student General Meeting and Semester Ending Party (December) It is an event where all students of the department gather to evaluate the activities of the student council, conferences, and other activities for the year, discuss problems to promote the development of the department, and elect the next student council president. It is also a place to encourage and congratulate seniors who are about to graduate.

Department Club

Random

Random is a soccer club where any male student from the department can participate and build friendships. You can build friendships between seniors and juniors through soccer games and social activities once a week.

God-in-us

God-in-us is a Christian club. In this meeting, you worship God. We meet once a week and have an outing during vacation. We hope that you will have a college life where you experience God every day.

Women’s Problem Research Club

The Women’s Problem Research Club formerly worked for women’s rights and is now debating gender equality. We discuss women's issues once a week, go to an outing during vacation, and hold various events and festivals.

Political Economy Research Club

The Political Economy Research Club has the largest number among the clubs. We meet once a week to discuss politics or economics and build friendships. We also hold various events and activities.

CUCiS

CUCiS means “Computer User Club in Statistics” and is a computer club in the department. We discuss a variety of computer-related topics once a week and engage in activities to become familiar with computers through practical experience.
